Newlife Uniting Church

Tuesday 17, January 2012

This Sunday @ Newlife

This Sunday morning at Robina (8.30am and 10.15am) we will begin a new four week series called ‘Postures of Prayer’. Prayer is one of the essential practices of healthy Christian discipleship, but prayer has many different forms. We will be exploring four of these forms – Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication. This week Stu will begin with Adoration.

At Pac Pines (9.30am) Orrell will continue our series exploring how we live in the ‘Land Between’ as we navigate life’s difficult transitions.

At 12two (6pm), Ralph will be back and will continue our series on the amazing life of Moses as we explore what it means to conquer conformity.

The Land Between (Part Two)

Last week at our Robina morning services we concluded our exploration of the Land Between the certainty of the past and the uncertainty of the future. We reflected on how it is possible to find God in difficult transitions in life. This week we discovered that in the Land Between God provides, disciplines and grows us. You can read my message or download the podcast here: http://www.stucameron.typepad.com/

Conquering Conformity

At 12two Stu Leo continued our new series called Conquering Conformity. For a couple of months we will dive into the amazing life story of Moses – one of the great patriarchs of our faith. Stu lead us through a wonderful reflection on Exodus chapters 3 and 4, in particular God’s call of Moses through a burning bush. You can download the podcast of Stu’s message here:http://www.ralphsblog.net

Op Shop Open House

Our newly renovated Op Shop will have an Open House this Sunday, from 9.30am to 10.20am and from 11.30am to 12.30am. Come along to see the amazing makeover our Op Shop has received. You may even be able to grab a bargain or two!

Congregational Meeting

There will be a meeting of the congregation on Sunday January 29 commencing at 12noon in the hall.

21 Days With John

An extensive body of research has demonstrated that the most important driver of spiritual growth in Christian believers is regular and sustained reading and reflecting on scripture. Put simply, if you want 2012 to be a year of spiritual growth, commit now to daily reading of the Bible! To help you get a healthy pattern established, why not join me in spending 21 Days with the Apostle John reading through his Gospel.

The Gospel of John has 21 chapters, so that is a chapter a day. I have been journaling my way through John at my blog. You can read my daily reflections here: http://www.stucameron.typepad.com/

Summer School - New Dates

Summer School with Lew and Betty Born that was scheduled for January has been postponed until February, commencing on Saturday February 4, to allow for more people to participate. Registrations forms with more details are available at the office or at the Info Desk on Sunday.

Acts 1:8 Christmas Tree

Through Advent we gave you the opportunity to purchase a Christmas gift with a difference through our Acts 1:8 Christmas Tree Project. 100% of the funds given through the Christmas Tree help support one of our church’s Acts 1:8 mission projects. I am thrilled to report that through December you gave a total of $8339 through the Christmas Tree. Thank you, and praise God! A special thank you to Sue Jeffries, the Missions Committee and many volunteers who made the Christmas Tree Project such a success.

Prayer Points

Every week we want to provide you with some prayer points to help guide you as we partner together in bringing our thanks, praise, adoration and requests to God.

• We thank God for the success of our Thai Mission trip. We pray that it will be a transforming experience not just for those who went, but also for us as a church as we seek to deepen our relationship with our Thai brother and sisters.

• We pray for Funstuff this Wednesday (January 18) – that it will be a day full of celebration and learning more about God. We particularly pray for Viv and her team of leaders.

• We thank God for the people who have filled our Bethel Bible study courses. We pray that these classes will deepen people’s knowledge and love of the Scriptures.

• We pray for Caleb as he returns from the Solomon Islands this week. We pray for his wife Tanya and children Jabez and Tara as he leaves them again.
